Iran successfully test-fired a new precision-guided ballistic missile on Sunday.
伊朗上周日成功试射一枚精确制导弹道导弹。
The long-range missile has been domestically designed and manufactured in Iran.
General Hossein Dehghan with the Iranian
Defense1 Ministry2 says the missile represents a major
milestone3 in his country's weapons development.
"A liquid-fuel long-range strategic missile has been tested. New
technological4 changes have been made to the missile enabling it to hit targets with high precision. The possibility to guide the missile until it hits the target is a new technology that our defense industry engineers have
attained5. It will obviously boost the strategic
deterrence6 capability7 of our armed forces."
Iran boasts one of the largest missile programs in the Middle East, but poor accuracy has limited its potential effectiveness.
Reports suggest the missile is the first in Iran's
arsenal8 that can be guided and controlled until hitting its target.
