The British government has rejected a petition1, signed by over four million people, calling for a second vote on whether their country should remain in or leave the European Union.
英国400万民众签署一份请愿书,要求对英国脱欧进行第二次投票,英国政府驳回了这一申请。
In the referendum last month, 52% of voters across the UK voted to leave the 28-member block.
However, many of the "Leave" voters have since expressed regrets since global markets have plummeted2 on the news and experts predicted other consequences around the exit.
Britain's foreign office has issued a statement on the issue, saying the Prime Minister David Cameron has made it clear, that the "referendum was one of the biggest democratic exercises in British history" and the "decision must be respected."
Cameron announced after the vote that he would step down in October, adding that a new leader would be needed to usher3 the country through the transition4.
