Beijing - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao vowed2 here to press ahead with all-round reform and opening up on the eve of the 57th anniversary of the People's Republic of China on October 1.

 

Addressing the National Day reception in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Wen said China had created a historic miracle by achieving nearly three decades of rapid and sustainable economic growth and all-round social development.

 

"We are committed to reform and opening up, this is irreversible." Wen said at the reception attended by more than 1,500 Chinese and foreign personages and senior officials, including Chinese President Hu Jintao, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and Wu Bangguo, NPC chairman, and other top state leaders.

 

"China will unswervingly push reform and opening up with all-around economic, political, cultural and social reform, emancipate3 and develope the productive forces, improve socialist4 democracy and law." Wen said.

 

He pointed5 out that China would become a prosperous, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious6 modern socialist country if it adhered to the path of scientific development.

 

The premier highlighted the need to encourage a hard-working spirit to create a better future, since the construction of modernization7 is longtime arduous8 task which requires the enthusiasm and diligence of the whole society.

 

He also stressed the government's resolve to fight against corruption9.

 

The central government would continue to work with Hong Kong and Macao people to ensure their prosperity and stability, to make efforts with Taiwan compatriots to achieve national reunification and work with the international community for a peaceful, prosperous and harmonious world, he said.
