由报道可知，“杂交水稻”相应的英文表达为“hybrid rice”。在生物学词汇中，“hybrid”指“adj.& n. 杂交（的）、混合（的）”，如：The hybrid from a donkey and a horse is called a mule³.（驴和马交配所生的物种叫骡）；The hybrid basketball team represents two universities.（这支混合篮球队代表两个大学。）

此外，我们常说的“混血儿”也可用“hybrid”来表达。
