“生态文明” conservation culture

今年十七大报告中首次提出了“生态文明”的概念，要求加强能源资源节约和生态环境保护，增强可持续发展能力。这也让我们看到了，在精神文明、物质文明、政治文明之外，生态文明也将成为国人的另一个建设目标。

"(We will) promote a conservation culture by basically forming an energy- and resource-efficient and environment-friendly structure of industries, pattern of growth and mode of consumption, " said Hu.

Hu added that China will have a large-scale circular economy and considerably¹ increase the proportion of renewable energy resources in total energy consumption, bring the discharge of major pollutants² under effective control and notably³ improve ecological⁴ and environmental quality.

"Awareness⁵ of conservation will be firmly established in the whole of society," Hu said.

胡锦涛说，要建设生态文明，基本形成节约能源资源和保护生态环境的产业结构、增长方式、消费模式。循环经济形成较大规模，可再生能源比重显著上升。主要污染物排放得到有效控制，生态环境质量明显改善。生态文明观念在全社会牢固树立。

“生态文明”即“conservation culture”；“生态文明观”为“awareness of conservation”。
