坐拥27所高等教育机构，近100所科研机构以及40个国家级和省级实验室，长春市已建成为中国东北地区的科学、技术及教育中心。

在上面的报道中，higher learning institution就是指“高等教育机构”。在高中毕业时，绝大多数学生会参加college (or university) entrance examination（高考），通过考试后就可以接受到正式的higher education（高等教育），所以有些人不惜借NCEE migrant（national college entrance examination，高考移民）的身份来参加考试，希望以较低的分数进入一所好的higher learning institution学习。

此外，还有些人选择参加vocational education（职业教育），或者adult education（成人教育）来深造。我国目前实行九年制compulsory education（义务教育），在此期间，学生们接受的是elementary and secondary education（初、中等教育）。
