Chinese officials have been told to set an example through civilized¹ and frugal² funerals, in the latest anti-extravagance offensive.

 

在最近的打击奢侈浪费行动中，中央要求干部带头文明治丧，简办丧事。

 

“文明治丧，简办丧事”就是hold civilized and frugal funerals。中央规定党员干部去世后不成立funeral arrangement groups（治丧机构），不召开mourning memorials（追悼会），举行body farewell ceremonies（遗体告别仪式）的，要strictly controlled in scale（严格控制规模）。

 

《意见》提出，严禁领导干部hosting luxurious³ funerals（丧事活动中大操大办，铺张浪费），严禁taking advantage of the occasion to collect condolence money from visitors（借机从访客那里收敛慰问金）。
