A little old lady sold1 pretzels on a street corner for 25 cents2 each. Every day a young lawyer3 would4 leave his office building at lunch time and, as5 he passed her pretzel stand, he would leave her a quarter, but would never take a pretzel. This went on for more than five years. The two of them never spoke6. One day as the lawyer passed the old ladies pretzel stand and left his quarter as usual7, the pretzel woman spoke to him,
" Sir, I appreciate8 your business9. You are a good customer10, but I have to tell you that the pretzel price11 has increased12 to 35 cents."
