The Seventh Plenary Session of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection1 (CCDI) was opened on Monday, Jan.8. |
Jan.10 - Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday (Jan.9) pledged a more severe and systematic2 crackdown on corruption3 during a speech at the Seventh Plenary Session of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), a three-day meeting that started on Monday.
According to reports, President Hu laid out four major fronts in the next stage of China's anti-corruption campaign.
They are to step up ethics4 education; to keep up the momentum5 of the campaign by routing out key offenses6 and high-level suspects; to address the problems that pose a great threat to the public interest; and to mend the official system and its procedures at the same time.
It is learned that a total of 3,128 cases directly involving government employees and monies worth some 968 million yuan (121 million U.S. dollars) were uncovered in the period August 2005 to June 2006.
