Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 9 – The State Cultural Relics2 Bureau and the China Archeological Association last Sunday unveiled the top ten archeological discoveries for the year of 2006. The Dahe Fuyuan Paleolithic Relic1 Site in Yunnan and the Xiantouling Neolithic3 Relic Site in Shenzhen, Guangdong, were placed first and second on the list, respectively.
The top ten archeological discoveries were chosen from among 24 ancient sites that entered into the last round of selection. The Dahe Fuyuan Paleolithic Relic Site is located in Cituo Village in a cave 1,743 meters above sea level. The stone carvings4 inside the cave reflect both local culture as well as a strong Most culture and Levalloisian stone-flaking technique. This is the first time that a relic site of Most culture was found in China's southern region.
The nine other relic sites on the list are: the Xiantouling Neolithic Relic Site in Shenzhen, the Neolithic tomb in Lingbao Xipo in Henan, the shell mound relic site in Guye Village of Guangdong, the Shang Dynasty rammed earth in Gaohong Village of Shanxi Province, the Zhou Dynasty grave mounds discovered in Pucheng County in Fujian, the graveyard of the Warring States Period in Majiayuan in Gansu, the Dabaozishan relic site of Lixian County in Gansu, the graveyard in Liu'an city in Anhui, and the Yuan Dynasty sluice found in Zhidanyuan of Shanghai
