Chinanews, Hangzhou, Apr. 10 – Chinese people’s fertility is lower than before. Statistics show that in some parts of China, the infertility1 rate of married people reaches 7-10%. More people are unable to give birth to babies.
The information was released at the first joint2 annual forum3 held by the China Medical Reproduction Association and China Animal and Biological Reproduction Association in Hangzhou, the Zhejiang Daily reported.
In recent years, doctors on reproduction medical science have made some investigations4 and researches on Chinese people’s fertility, finding that compared with forty years ago, the number of sperms6 contained by per litre of semen has decreased from 100 million to 20-40 million.
“In Shanghai, we have a sperm5 bank and a large number of donors7 are college students. Normally, these young students should be healthy and energetic and the sperms donated by them should be good. However, in actual fact, the qualities of their semen do not meet our requirement. The donated semen not only contains a small number of sperms, the sperms are also not active enough,” said Professor Wang Yifei.
While semen degradation8 contributes to many infertility cases, many women's late marriage is also one of the reasons for the rising infertility rate.
Semen deterioration9 is mainly caused by the changing environment in which human beings live. Fertilizers, insecticide, and decorative10 materials used today contain many poisonous substances. In addition, the forage11 that domestic animals feed on has addictives. The soil and water resources are polluted. All these cause the quality of sperms to decrease. In addition, taking drugs, drinking, smoking, obesity, and mounting social pressure also contribute to semen degradation
