Chinanews. Beijing, Apr. 11 – In future, Chinese people who know nothing about English can log onto websites simply by typing related Chinese characters, plus “.cn” after these characters.
The China Internet Network Information Center on Tuesday launched a program aimed to set up one million websites whose Internet addresses are marked by Chinese characters, followed by dot cn. The program will clear the language obstacles for those Chinese who know nothing about English. With this program, it is expected that more Chinese people can log onto the Internet with their native language. At present, about 5,000 national and local government departments, including the State Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry1 of Foreign Affairs, and the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, have launched their Chinese language websites. In order to help more Chinese public to order a ticket online, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) has recently launched a Chinese language website for ticket buying. Thus, by typing “奥运门票.CN”(ticket for Olympic Games.cn), Chinese people can make an order for tickets online.
