Chinanews, Beijing, May 22 – China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Group announced on Friday that the first generating unit of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station, the largest nuclear power cooperative project between China and Russia, was put to operation for commercial use starting from 20:00 May 17. This indicated that the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station was officially put to commercial operation.
The Tianwan Nuclear Power Station, located in east China’s Jiangsu Province, is a nuclear power station with the largest single-unit capacity in China. By 24:00 May 17, the first unit had generated 2.42 billion kilowatt1 hours of electricity in total. The station had generated 2.16 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to network in total. The nuclear power station was built with four one-million-kilowatt press water reactors2 (PWR) nuclear power generating units. The station can be expanded in scale when needed. The nuclear power station has a total installed capacity of 8-10 million kilowatts3. It can produce 60-70 billion kilowatt hours of electricity every year, with its output value reaching over 25 billion yuan. It was agreed that in the first phase, two power generating units would be built with AES-91 press water reactors brought from Russia, each with a single-unit capacity of 1.06 million kilowatts. The second unit is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, by then the two units can work for 40 years and can generate 14 billion kilowatt hours of electricity every year.
