Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 10 – The first phase of construction of the national nuclear emergency directing platform has been completed and put into trial operation now. The platform will monitor the operational conditions of all nuclear power plants in China. It will gather the latest information about nuclear radiation and meteorological changes, and it can also receive abnormal signals sent by nuclear power plants, the China Disease Prevention and Control Center said on Tuesday.
The platform is built at the site of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense1. The platform has been linked with the emergency directing centers of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in Zhejiang, the Dayawan (Ling’ao) Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong and the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant in Jiangsu. It also connects the provincial-level nuclear emergency directing centers where these nuclear power plants are located. The platform can thus share information with local emergency centers about the operational conditions of these nuclear plants and the accidents happening in these plants. By gathering2 this information, the platform can assess the possible dangers of the nuclear radiation accidents and communicate with foreign nuclear institutions. It can also post related nuclear information on some public websites. The platform can help the State Council, related provinces and construction institutions to share information related with different nuclear power plants. The information includes the emergency handling measures, the geographical3 features, equipment and technical personnel conditions at different nuclear plants. It can provide real-time dynamic display of the developmental process of nuclear accidents, assess the consequence of the accidents and propose emergency handling measure automatically. It can also automatically print out related reports to help engineers to make decisions.
