Chinanews, Guangzhou, August 20 – After the first “cellphone newspaper” was published in 2004, more and more news presses have started their business in this field. Currently, in Guangdong Province alone, there are 5 million cellphone newspaper subscribers, making cellphone very important news media in China.

According to the statistics by the Ministry1 of Information Industry, there were 467 million cellphone subscribers in China in 2006, and the figure has kept rising fast. In the first 4 months of 2007, China Mobile had 20.16 million new users. It is estimated that by 2008 there will be 600 million cellphone subscribers in China.

It can be estimated that cellphone newspapers will have a very bright future, as it is a trend for a digital revolution to take place in the news publishing. Maybe not long after, most Chinese will read news from their cellphones instead of large-format newspapers.
