Chinanews, Taiyuan ,September 20 – Zhang Qingjun, the designer of the Resource 1 satellite jointly1 developed by China and Brazil, said that the two countries will continue their cooperation developing another two resource satellites and in other space development projects.
China and Brazil started jointly to develop resource satellites in 1988, and the two Resource 1 satellites were launched in 1999 and 2003 respectively. More than 1,200 Chinese subscribers and 3,000 Brazilian subscribers are now using the service of the two satellites by now. The statistics from the two satellites also help the central governments of the two countries to make decisions on such issues as environmental protection, fighting against natural disasters and resource inspection2. The new satellite might be launched 1 or 2 years later, and the other one will also be completed soon. All the 4 satellites will serve in space for at least 8 years.
