Accuse me thus: that I have scanted¹ all
Wherein I should your great deserts repay,
Forgot upon your dearest love to call,
Whereto all bonds do tie me day by day;
That I have frequent been with unknown minds
And given to time your own dear-purchased right
That I have hoisted² sail to all the winds
Which should transport me farthest from your sight.
Book both my wilfulness³ and errors down
And on just proof surmise⁴ accumulate;
Bring me within the level of your frown,
But shoot not at me in your waken'd hate;
  Since my appeal says I did strive to prove
  The constancy and virtue⁵ of your love.

请这样控告我：说我默不作声，

说我忘记向你缱绻的爱慰问，
尽管我对你依恋一天天密切；
说我时常和陌生的心灵来往，
为偶尔机缘断送你宝贵情谊；
说我不管什么风都把帆高扬，
任它们把我吹到天涯海角去。
请把我的任性和错误都记下，
在真凭实据上还要积累嫌疑，
把我带到你的颦眉蹙额底下，
千万别唤醒怨毒来把我射死；
　　因为我的诉状说我急于证明
　　你对我的爱多么忠贞和坚定。
