The price hike comes after several tech companies reached a deal with their content producers.

 

Apple says the price increase for the iPhones and iPads is linked to the new copyright levy¹.

 

Last month, Apple, Samsung and others agreed to pay as much as 7-dollars-70-cents for each smartphone or tablet imported into Germany.

 

The money will be distributed to creative professionals, including a group representing "creators, producers and acting² artists of erotic and pornographic films."

 

The agreement is based on a 1965 German law that allows consumers to make private copies of sound, images or texts in return for a small levy on the device.
