China's Huawei - the largest telecommunications equipment company in the world - is launching a public cloud service.

That's according to Reuters, who report that the market is currently worth $247 billion a year, and could be worth over $380 billion by the end of the decade.

 

Currently, a handful of firms dominate the cloud computing¹ industry. In China, services offered Dalian Wanda and Alibaba are popular, whilst in Europe and North America, Amazon, Google and Microsoft are the dominant² players.

 

It is understood that Huawei's investment in their new platform could be worth as much as $1 billion.

 

Earlier this week, we reported that Huawei is facing a potential sales ban in the UK.

 

That followed news that the telecommunications giant has been ordered to pay a global licensing³ fee to Unwired Planet.

 

They're a US firm who purchased patents that used to belong to Ericsson.

 

Huawei is considering what action to take in light of the judgment⁴, but is understood to be confident that it will not have a major impact on its business.

 

The company has a significant presence in the United Kingdom market, with offices in Basingstoke, Ipswich and London.

 

In sales terms, it has enjoyed significant success, becoming the third largest manufacturer in the UK, behind Apple and Samsung.
