Chinanews, Guangzhou, Feb. 16 - A recent survey shows that many Taiwan students studying in Guangzhou think that economy has been developing fast in the mainland. About 80% of Taiwan students say they are willing to stay and work in the mainland because economy here provides great opportunities for them. About 50% of Taiwan students intend to stay in the mainland either to continue their study or to work here.
The survey was carried out by the Guangzhou Municipal1 Freindship Association for Taiwan Compatriots. Guangzhou sits adjacent2 to Hong Kong and Macao and also not far from Taiwan. Because of its geographical3 advantages, Guangzhou has become the third largest city for Taiwan students to stay in the mainland, only next to Beijing and Shanghai. At present, there are 1,100 Taiwan students studying in Guangzhou. According to information available, about 1,000 Taiwan students have graduated from colleges or universities in Guangzhou. In recent years, more and more Taiwan students are willing to stay and work in the mainland. The survey shows that 48% of the students are willing to stay in the mainland either to continue their study or to work. Among them, 26% want to find a job in the mainland and the rest want to continue to study in Guangzhou. In addition, 32% of the students in the survey want to go back to Taiwan and 15% say they "haven't made up their minds yet" or want to "go somewhere else." Despite their wishes, those who want to stay in the mainland will encounter some practical problems. When asked what kind of problems they will have when working in the mainland, 74% of the students say the salary level is rather low in the mainland. Some of them also complain that it is rather difficult for them to find a job here.
