Chinanews, Shanghai, March 9 – Nestle, the biggest ice-cream maker1 in the world, held its annual new products releasing meeting on March 7 in Shanghai, which heralded2 the escalating3 of competitions in China's ice-cream market.
Currently, the Chinese ice-cream market scale is a mere4 23 billion yuan, but it has kept an annual growth rate of 10%. Besides, the Chinese only consume 1 liter of ice-cream per capita every year, about 1/10 of the figure in the US. It can be inferred from all the above information that the Chinese ice-cream market still has great potential. Though Nestle tops the world ice-cream industry, it can not rival local brands like Bright Diary, Mengniu and Yili, which are the top 3 in China. However, big local enterprises and transnational groups have already carved up the booming Chinese ice-cream market. Thousands of small and medium-sized ice-cream producers in China are in a very difficult situation, and they are not very likely to survive future challenges.
