Chinanews, Beijing, March 14 – As 2006 was considered to be a good year for marriage (there were two Lichun, or the Beginning of Spring, the first Solar Item in the Chinese Lunar Calender, in 2006, and it was thought to be a symbol of happiness), and many young people did get married last year, there will very probably be a big baby boom1 in 2007. Besides, the arrival of the Year of the Pig in 2007 might even push the baby boom further.
It is estimated that some 22 million babies will be born in 2007, much higher than the figure in the previous baby boom in 2000. Johnson Johnson, the world-famous baby supplies producer, said that it would hold a very optimistic view about its business in China this year. Many Chinese baby supplies producers also predicted that there would be no slack2 season for them in 2007, even in summer, and they have already changed their advertising3 strategies. Obviously, there will be a sales-promotion campaign from June to September this year. The parents are happy to see a competition coming up in the market -- for they can get what they want at more reasonable prices, although they might worry about their children's education and employment in the future. "I'll leave these questions till then," said Mrs. Yu and Mrs Xie, who had just become grandmothers, when asked about if they were worried about their grandchildren's education.
