Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 4 – The Ministry1 of Health revealed on Monday that China will learn from the experiences of developed countries and gradually enforce the regulations on food recall.
The Ministry of Health has organized experts to study China’s food recall system. One expert said that there are 4 meanings of “food recall”: food producers will have obligations to prevent the access of polluted food in the market; disqualified food in the market will have the least effect on consumers; food recall will be made voluntarily by food producers; the government can force food producers to recall their disqualified food if the later refuse to do so. Three kinds of foods need to be recalled: those that may harm people’s health or even cause death, those that may affect one’s health, and those that may not be appropriate for sale in the market. Experts also pointed2 out that there were no specific government institutions responsible for supervising food recall process, and many private producers failed to provide full information on their products. All these factors make it difficult to implement3 the food recall regulations in China, said the experts.
