Chinanews, Beijing, April 13 - The Ministry1 of Land and Resources of China released its report on the change of land usage2 in 2006 on April 12, 2007, saying that there were only 300 million acres of farmland left in China by the end of last October, 757,800 acres fewer than in 2005.
According to the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), China should guarantee that there are 290 million acres of farmland available in 2010, thus the annual farmland loss must be controlled under 1.07 million acres every year in the next 4 years. Actually, the loss of farmland has been well under control, compared with the 10th Five-Year Plan Period, but the situation is still very serious.
