Chinanews, Guangzhou, April 18 - "The total GDP of Guangdong Province will exceed Taiwan in 2007, after it exceeded Singapore and Hong Kong in 2005, " said Huang Zuoping, the author of A New Concept of Economic Regions in China.
Guangdong's GDP last year was 2.596855 trillion yuan, and the GDP of Taiwan was 2.77368 trillion yuan, 6.8% more than the figure in Guangdong. However, with a two-digit economic growth, Guangdong will surpass Taiwan before the end of 2007.
The average annual GDP growth rate of Taiwan in the last 10 years was 2.5%. Even Taiwan would witness a 4% growth of GDP in 2007, its total GDP this year would be between 2.884648 trillion yuan and 2.8985 trillion yuan.
Guangdong's GDP has been leaping at an annual rate of 14.8% averagely in the last 10 years, and even the growth would slow to 11% or 12%, its GDP would still reach 2.882559 trillion yuan to 2.98528 trillion yuan.
"Though Guangdong's GDP will exceed Taiwan, its industrial layout still can not rival the latter. Not to mention that Taiwan is much stronger than Guangdong in the overall economic potential," said Huang.
