Bank managers sacked after 51m yuan theft

Apr.24 - The Agricultural Bank of China on Monday announced the dismissal of a number of senior officials and employees in the wake of one of the country's biggest-ever cash thefts totaling 51 million yuan.

The bank demanded the resignation of Qu Jianyao, the president of ABC's Hebei Province branch, and fired his two vice¹ presidents.

All the employees in the cash management center at the branch in Handan, Hebei Province, where the massive theft took place have been suspended during the ongoing² investigation³.

Police last week arrested the two suspects -- Ren Xiaofeng, 34, and Ma Xiangjing, 37 -- for the theft from the vault⁴, which was discovered on April 14.

The duo, who worked for the cash center, said they had been stealing the cash for more than a month to buy lottery⁵ tickets, hoping to make a fortune and return the money.
