Chinanews, Shanghai, May 14 – Global consulting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers issued a report about foreign banks in China last Thursday. The report says that as the middle class group in China continues to expand, as investment of foreign banks in China continues to grow, and as China further opens its banking1 sector2 to the outside world, as it once committed to WTO, foreign banks business in China will increase during this process. Most foreign banks mentioned in the report predict that their business in China will grow by at least 20% this year.

The report covers 40 foreign banks that have launched business in China. All the 40 banks are optimistic about their business prospect3 in China and determined4 to expand their bank business in China. It is expected that by 2010, the total assets of these banks will double the current figure to reach 100 billion US dollars and the net profit of these banks will quadruple.

As competition intensifies5, most foreign banks now face two major problems in their business development in China: human resource flow and regulation control. The report shows that 35% of the foreign banks say their human resource flow rate reaches 15-20%, and two-thirds of them say their human resource flow rate exceeds 15%. Most banks offer lucrative6 salaries to try to keep their staff stay in the company.

At present, all these 40 foreign banks have hired a total of 16,752 employees. The foreign banks expect that by 2010, the number of their staff will reach 35,685, increasing by 113%. Many foreign banks have assigned some professional, well-trained staff members from departments in other countries to China in order to support the company’s business development in China.
