Chinanews, Hangzhou, May 24 - Art objects have become more and more popular among ordinary Chinese, and their production has reached a new peak in China. The consumption of art objects is now a public topic.
The third China Art Market Summit Forum1 was held in Hanghzou, Zhejiang Province on May 22, at which artists, art critics and financiers discussed the reality and future of the Chinese art object market. Most of them are concerned about the bubbles in the market. In only 20 years, China has grown into a big art market, where both the economic and artistic2 values of art objects are well appreciated. In 2006 alone, some 105 auction3 agencies have held 689 auction fairs themed with Chinese arts, the total sales value being 14.6 billion yuan. Art objects have also become hot for investors4. Take Zhejiang, an economically booming province, as an example. Many successful businesspeople there have become professional art collectors, some even owning private museums or galleries. However, the overheat market will eventually harm the artistic value of arts, as it is often wrong to tell the value of an art object by its price, said some expert.
