Chinanews, Beijing, November 2 – The Law on Farmers’ Professional Cooperatives was passed yesterday on the 24th Meeting of the Standing1 Committee of the National People’s Congress, to encourage farmers to get rid of poverty through cooperation, and the law will come into force on January 1, 2007.
Farmers’ professional cooperative organizations came into being in developed countries a long time ago, and in many places in China. Currently, there are no less than 100 thousand organizations of this kind in the country. They can enhance farmers’ ability in dealing2 with challenges of the market economy by combining family agricultural economic entities3, which will help the country to solve the “three rural problems” (rural economy, rural areas rural residents) “These organizations help farmers by bring agricultural products to the market through a faster channel, ” said Zhang Yongjun, a deputy to the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature. The legal persons of farmers’ professional cooperatives will be protected by law, which is certainly good news.
