Chinanews, Chengdu, June 15 – The Social Investigation1 Center at the Sichuan Provincial2 Statistics Bureau recently carried out a survey about shareholders’ view on Chinese stock market. The survey shows that most of the stockholders are optimistic about the stock market.
The survey was done after Shanghai composite index touched 4,200 points. In order to do the survey, the Sichuan Provincial Statistics Bureau investigated 1,070 stockholders and 930 non-stockholders. The result shows that one-fifth of the stockholders have just entered the stock market. These new stockholders work in various fields and they have little knowledge about stocks. Among people who have not bought any stocks so far, 80% say they won't enter into the stock market this year for lack of stocks knowledge. Nearly half of the stockholders think that the Shanghai composite index will touch 5,000 points this year. When asked how high can the Shanghai composite index touch, 19.7% of the stockholders say the index should be below 4,500 points, 22.4% of the stockholders say it can reach 4,800 points, 25.2% of the stockholders say it can touch 5,000 points and 23.4% of them say it will top 5,000 points. Only 9.3% of the stockholders predict the index won't climb up any more. In terms of the amount of money put in, the survey shows that most of the stockholders invest less than 100,000 yuan in the stock market. To be more specific, 69.2% of the stockholders invest less than 50,000 yuan; 21.5% of them invest 50,000 to 100,000 yuan; 6.5% invest 100,000-300,000 yuan, and 2.8% invest 300,000-500,000 yuan. Most of the money comes from investors3’ savings4. So far, nobody has been found to borrow money from banks to buy stocks. About 70% of the stockholders say their profits are below 50% and less than 20% of them say they have lost money in the stock market. Although investors may gain or lose money at different times, the survey shows that investors that have bought stocks since 2006 will generally make profits.
