Chinanews, Beijing, August 1 – Nowadays, more and more investors1 in Beijing have started sole-proprietor enterprises of their own, or enterprises with only one shareholder2.
Sole-proprietor enterprises had not been allowed to exist before 2006, before the new Company Law was issued. Latest statistics show that 5,688 such enterprises were opened in the last 6 months, taking up nearly 20% of the new enterprises set up in this period there. At present, there are 16,000-some sole-proprietor enterprises in Beijing. It is estimated that before 2008, the number of sole-proprietor enterprises will exceed state-owned enterprises. Most of these enterprises are in the field of retailing3, building and food and beverage4, which requires only a small amount of investment.
