Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 3 – As Ningxia Hui Autonomous1 Region recently released its economic figures for the first half of this year, economic figures for all the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) have been publicized. The Shanghai Securities Journal recently reported that based on the calculation of the 31 local governments, their GDP for the first half of the year totalled 11.92 trillion yuan. However, according to the National Statistics Bureau, China's GDP for the past six months reached 10.68 trillion yuan.
Last year, the Shanghai Securities Journal reported that the GDP calculation between local and central governments differed by 804.8 billion yuan. A year later, the gap further enlarged to reach 1.24 trillion yuan. If the GDP differs by 1.24 trillion yuan in half a year, it can be deduced that, with simply multipling the figure by 2, the GDP difference between local and central governments might reach 2.5 trillion yuan for the whole year, a figure that nearly equals the combined GDP of the four centrally administered municipalities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Chongqing. It is said that the GDP for a particular region is calculated by the local government in that region. In calculating the investment and trade volume of a region, some figures might be added more than once. In recent years, as many provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have pushed for the construction of regional economic cooperation zones, it is very likely that investment and trade volume in these cooperation zones might be repeatedly calculated by different local governments in their GDP counting.
