Chinanews, Beijing, August 8 – Two foreign investment bodies from the US and UK signed a contract with Jiamei, a private-owned dental clinic in Beijing on August 6, whereby they will jointly1 invest $10 million on the clinic, which will be the first time for foreign capital to enter this field.
Jiamei is one of the biggest of its kind in China, with 60 chain-clinics set up in China (37 in Beijing). Now, Jiamei plans to open another 40 new chain-clinics in the country with the investment. Before the end of 2007, it will absorb another foreign investment of $40 million, to bring the number of its chain clinics up to 300 in 2008. At present, 560 million Chinese suffer from dental caries. Statistics show that every 5-year-old has 4-5 decayed teeth, while elders in their 60s and 70s are averagely devoid2 of 9 teeth each. Besides, most of them have not received proper treatment at all. Thus private dentist clinics will surely have a bright future.
