Chinanews, Beijing, August 21 – “Two yuan will be enough for a decent breakfast that consists of porridge, pickles1 and steamed buns,” said Ms. Dai in Jinan, Shandong Province.
According to a report by CCTV, economical food and beverage2 service in China has great increased, particularly economical breakfast stalls. In fact, many new brands and successful enterprises in the country are in this kind of business. “Not only breakfast, we will work hard to make sure that more Chinese people will be able to enjoy cheaper and better food. In the next 3 to 5 years, a complete economical food and beverage service network will be set up in nearly all the big and medium-sized cities in China. By then, economical food and beverage will take up 80% of the sales value of the food and beverage industry,” said Jiang Zengwei, Vice3 Minister of Commerce. Since 1991, the food and beverage industry in China has been growing at an annual rate of 10%. In 2006, its sales value broke 1 trillion yuan, and absorbed 13.5% of the total consumption, with economic food and beverage service contributing 70% of the sales value. Besides, it generates at least 25,000 job openings every year.
