Ms. Zhang is just one of the many people in China who plan to buy another car. Several years ago, the family bought a small Alto. Since they now have a child, they want to buy a larger car.
Mr. Wu wants to buy another car as a present for his wife. “We can afford to pay the maintenance fees for two cars,” he said.
Information shows that a second car purchase boom is going to happen in China. During this purchase boom, cars that sell at about 100,000 yuan will be most welcomed by consumers.
In a related survey, nearly half of the respondents regard owing a car as a symbol of a high quality of life. 71.2% of the respondents intend to buy their second car in the next 3-5 years. In China, most Chinese families bought their private cars in 2003, so it can be said that the second car purchase boom might occur next year.
According to a report from MetroExpress, in Tianjin most auto1 4S stores now have a busy time in car sale. Domestic auto makers2, like Xiali and Qirui, foreign-funded auto makers, like Shanghai GM, Toyota and Shanghai Volkswagen, and even luxury car brands, like BMW and Audi, have all launched the car exchange service. A business manager from a used-car 4S store in Tianjin said for used cars, the store did not require that customers should exchange their cars only for the same brand. The car exchange service has now become an important service to drive up the sale, he said.
In 2007, about 2 million new cars will be sold in China as a result of customers demand for exchanging their old cars for a new one. The car exchange boom will take place in China, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
