Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 29 – The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Tuesday announced its decision to issue the operation license1 for Kunpeng Airlines, the first feeder airline company jointly3 established by Chinese and American aviation enterprises.
On July 3, 2006, CAAC approved the application for setting up the Kunpeng Airline Company. At present, the company has completed the related preparatory work and applied4 for its business operation license. CAAC's northwest branch office has accepted their request and finished the first round of inspection5 work, said an official at CAAC.
In 2006, Chinese Shenzhen Airlines and US Mesa Air Group Inc., the largest feeder airline company in the United States, signed an agreement on jointly establishing a feeder airline company in China. Based on the agreement, the joint2 venture company will involve a total registered capital of 500 million yuan, with Shenzhen Airlines owning 51% of the registered capital (255 million yuan) and the American company owning the rest 49% shares. Mesa Air Group will invest its money through two Chinese companies, Pingshan Co., Ltd. and Shanyue Co., Ltd. This is the second joint venture deal carried out by Shenzhen Airlines. In 2004, Shenzhen Airline Company worked with German Lufthansa and set up a joint venture freight company, Jade6 Cargo7 International.
CAAC approved the establishment of Kunpeng Airline Company because it wanted to promote the aviation industry in China's west region, the official said.
In its first stage, the joint venture company plans to lease some CRJ200 aircraft from Mesa Air Group Inc. When Chinese-made aircraft ARJ21 are put to use in 2009, Kunpeng might buy some of the domestically made aircraft for its business operation.
