Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 31 – The soaring housing price and rising commodity prices are lowering down people's expectations for their future life. In August, consumer confidence index has dropped to 100.7, decreasing by 1.3 points from last month and hitting the lowest point since May. It is only a bit higher than the consumer confidence index of last April, according to the Xinhua Finance eziData China Consumer Confidence Index (CCCI) released on Wednesday.
In August, consumer confidence for commodity prices has dropped substantially by 11.4 points to reach 71.7 points. On the other hand, the bullish performance in the stock market has somehow watered down the impacts of the price hike on the people's confidence, as it shows that the index on current life in August has reached 99.7 points, dropping slightly by 0.5 point compared with July. This is the third consecutive2 months that such index has dropped. In addition, the confidence index in family financial status is on a par1 with that of last month and consumer confidence index for durable3 goods has dropped.
As the stock index keeps rising, the amount of money that flows into the stock market also increases. More and more Chinese people are willing to put their money in the stock market now. Although the lessened4 interest income tax might prevent people from taking their money out of banks, many people still want to use the money which might otherwise be used in buying commodities and put it in the stock market. Affected5 by this trend, consumer confidence index in durable goods and automobiles6 both has dropped this month.
For people whose annual family income is over 48,000 yuan, their confidence index has dropped the most generally. The survey shows that the confidence index of people in this group has reached 105.1 points, dropping by 1.8 points. For people whose annual family income is lower than 48,000 yuan, their confidence index has dropped by 0.6 point to reach 96.1 points. For people of these two groups, their index on current life has dropped by a relatively7 same range. However, the index of people's expectations for their future life has dropped more among the low-income group than among the middle- and high-income group.
