Chinanews, Hangzhou, Sept. 3 – An international yacht exhibition will be held in Qiandaohu Lake, Zhejiang, on September 21-23. About 51 yachts from nine countries, including the United States, Australia, France, Norway and Canada, will be put on display at the exhibition, of which 28 are made in foreign countries and the rest 23 by China.
Information shows that when a region's per capita GDP reaches 5,000 US dollars, yacht industry will emerge in that region. In Hangzhou City, Zhejiang, the capita GDP has already exceeded 5,000 US dollars. Since the city sits near Qiandaohu Lake, local government wants very much to develop the yacht industry. At present, local government encourages the development of the yacht and related industries. By holding the international yacht exhibition at Qiandaohu Lake, local government wishes to further promote the yacht industry in Hangzhou and make Hangzhou a yacht manufacturing center in the Yangtze River Delta1 region and even in China, a person from Hangzhou Trade and Economic Commission told the reporter. The yacht industry in Zhejiang will mainly target at the masses. By making many small yachts, it is hoped that people with moderate income can also afford to buy yachts, said Wang Jun, deputy head of Chun'an County, Zhejiang. By developing yacht industry for leisure activities, it is hoped that yacht industry can prosper2 in Zhejiang, experts say. Like Hangzhou, local governments of many other places in Zhejiang also plan to develop yacht industry in their regions. In Zhoushan, for example, local government includes yacht industry as an important part of the local economy, and plans to build a yacht manufacturing center, three yacht clubs and five yacht piers3. In Ningbo, local government has drawn4 up a program for developing the nearby Xiangshan Port. According to this program, 21 towns or townships near Xiangshan Port, including Xiangshan, Ninghai, Fenghua, and Beilun, will be built as manufacturing bases for luxury pleasure boats and private yachts. Wenzhou government also wants to build Cangnan Port as a center for leisure, commercial travel and recreational activities. The development of yacht industry in Zhejiang has also attracted large amounts of investment. Merchants have invested money to build yacht piers, yacht clubs and yacht recreational centers. In Qiandaohu Lake, there are three yacht clubs set up there, each involving an investment of more than 100 million yuan. When the international yacht exhibition is held later this month in Qiandaohu Lake, local people want to lure5 investors6 to build an international yacht club there. At present, at least 2 billion yuan of capital has been put into the yacht industry and at least 50 companies are involved in the yacht business in Zhejiang.
