Chinanews, Beijing, September 6 –With the drawing near of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, many economical hotels have started their business in Beijing.
GreenTree Inn, from the US, opened its first chain economical hotel in Beijing last week, and it plans to open another 5 by the end of September. Before the opening of the Games, there will be at least 50 GreenTree Inns available in Beijing.
Beijing Coal Group has also launched 4 economical hotels, while many international economical hotel brands like Home Inns and Jinjiang Inns are ready to take their share in the market.
Though there are many rivals in the economical hotel industry, nearly all of them are witnessing a good business. Currently, more than 80% of the rooms in the GreenTree Inn are occupied, while the proportion in Home Inn and Jinjiang Inn is both almost 100%. Guests need to book 2 or 3 days beforehand, or there might be no rooms available. Some of them have even started the booking for the 2008 Olympic Games.
In the US, economical hotels contribute to 60% - 70% of the total sales value of the hotel industry, while the proportion in China is no more than 2%. Thus there is still a long way for economical hotels to go in China.
