China to build Air Silk Road with 7 countries

Chinanews, Urumqi, September 6 – Representatives of the civil aviation departments of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Mongolia took part in a meeting in Urumqi on September 5, 2007, to discuss the founding of special flight routes also known as the Air Silk Road, as most of those countries are located along the ancient Silk Road.

The Air Silk Road will be a fully¹ optimized² freight flight course linking China and Central Asian countries to cut the cost of shipping³ goods.

The upgrading of airports and international cooperation between airlines are also major topics at the meeting.
