Chinanews, Hang Kong, Dec. 14 – Chen Yingfang, manager of AC Nielsen’s Hong Kong Branch estimated that the consumption confidence index in mainland will possibly surpass Hong Kong in late 2007 with the appreciation1 of Chinese currency and the forthcoming 2008 Summer Olympics.
Chen said that the index of Chinese mainland has reached 105 according to latest statistics, ranking 14th in the world. The average value of the index is 99, which proves that the mainland has done a marvelous job in recent years. But she also pointed2 out that the mainland still has a longer way to go compared than those developed countries. More Chinese will enjoy traveling abroad, which will also accelerate the nation’s economic development. The index of Hong Kong is 111, ranking 10th in the world. Statistics show that people in Hong Kong pay more attention to economy, health and employment. Chen said that more and more of them are worried about food security, for several kinds of poisonous or polluted food were discovered in the market in the past 11 months.
