BEIJING, Oct. 15 - Chinese share prices hit a new record on Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing above 6,000 points for the first time, Xinhua News Agency reports.
The index ended on the first day of the 17th party congress at 6030.09 points, up 126.83 points, or 2.15 percent. The Shenzhen Component1 Index on the smaller market, however, fell 0.24 percent, or 46.55 points to close at 19,088.65 points. The combined turnover2 on the two bourses remains3 high at 272.8 billion yuan (36.4 billion U.S. dollars).
