Chinanews, Beijing, Oct 25 – Chinese middle class group is expanding quickly. As they become richer, many want to buy a new car or change for a better car. This will boost domestic car consumption. In Beijing, lots of car owners start to change for a better car this year.

Many Chinese care much about their "face", while many like to show off their wealth or rank. They might keep their old-fashioned refrigerators, TV sets or washing machines at home for a decade; however, they won't use their cars for such a long time. In their eyes, cars are a symbol of wealth or rank, if one has some extra money, one will first consider buying flash cars.

A recent survey shows that nearly 40% of the car owners plan to change for a better car this year. In Beijing, the trend is even more obvious.

Chinese auto1 industry has expanded rapidly in recent years. New models are launched into the market one after another and the sales price keeps declining. As a result, many car owners would like to change for a better car. At present, most medium-class sedans are sold at a price of around 150,000 yuan. If a couple's total salary in a month can reach 10,000 yuan, they can afford to buy a medium-class sedan with three to four years' savings2.

Many car owners in Beijing hold that a car can reflect one’s distinguished3 lifestyle and a good car can raise the life quality for the owner. As people's idea for car consumption has improved, when buying a second car, they tend to focus more on the brand name, the safety issue, the manufacturer and the oil consumption. By taking these factors into consideration, many people prefer to buy medium- or high-grade sedans.

It seems that young people tend to change cars more frequently than older people. This greatly boosts the car sales market in Beijng. Last year, about 400,000 new cars were sold in Beijing, with about 1,000 cars being sold every day and one car being sold in every five seconds on average, said a person in charge at the Beijing Asian Games Village Automobile4 Exchange, the largest auto sales market in China.
