Chinanews, Beijing, Oct. 30 – Officials from China's General Administration of Customs recently revealed that drug smuggling1 became more serious in China, and more people have tried to smuggle2 drugs into Chinese mainland in recent years.
Provincial3 Customs Administrations had dealt with 265 cases of drug smuggling from January to September 2007, and more than 435 kilograms of drugs had been seized. Such cases mainly occurred in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Urumqi. In order to counter the drug smuggling from the Golden Crescent Region (located at the crossroads of Central, South, and Western Asia), Customs Administration of Urumqi in Xinjiang has launched a special movement against the drug smuggling. Nine suspects and 26 kilograms of heroin4 were captured in last September. Eight foreigners were also captured in Baiyun Airport of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, from September 21 to 25.
