Chinanews, Beijing, Nov.5 – According to a poll conducted by the Well-off Life Magazine, though China is witnessing a sharp CPI hike caused by the rising food price, most residents admit that their spending power has somewhat improved compared with 2006. Thus the “well-off life index” in China has become higher, too.
56.4% of the respondents to the poll say they have greater spending power than last year; 24.5% of them think their spending power remains1 the same; while another 19.5% complain that their life has become harder. Most of the respondents have a rational view on consumption, as they usually plan their budget well before spending money. Traditionally the Chinese people appreciate the prudent2 view on consumption. At present, the inadequate3 social security also makes people try their best to save up for a rainy day. Most respondents say that food, housing, traffic and communication takes up the better part of their monthly spending. Today's Chinese are willing to spend more on social intercourse4, education, entertainment and travels. In a word, the service trade will absorb more money from individual consumers in China. The poll also reveals that most Chinese consumers like famous brands, particularly International ones.
