Chinanews, Urumqi, Nov. 13 – The proven natural gas reserve in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous1 Region has exceeded 1.25 trillion cubic meters, making it become one of the three main areas in China whose natural gas reserves have exceeded one trillion cubic meters, the Xinjiang Regional Development and Reform Commission said recently.
Xinjiang is the starting point of China's west-to-east gas transmission project. It is estimated that Xinjiang has 10 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, accounting2 for one-fourth of the country's total. In China, Xinjiang is regarded as one of the important places on land that has rich oil and natural gas resources. It plans to produce 20.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas this year. If such plan can be realized, Xinjiang will become the first place in China whose natural gas production exceeds 20 billion cubic meters. Much of Xinjiang's rich energy resource comes from the Tarim Basin, the Junggar Basin and the Tuha Basin. Recently, a large natural gas processing station that can process 1.5 million cubic meters of natural gas a day, is nearly completed at Mahe Natural Gas Field. In the near future, much of the natural gas resource in Mahe will be piped into the market by Xinjiang Oil and Gas Company.
