Chinanews, Kunming, Dec. 12 – Wang Qing, a senior official from China Tea Industry Association1, said during a tea industry forum2 on Monday that this year China will produce 1.1 million tons of tea, to rank first in the world.
China produced 1.02 million tons of tea in 2006, and this year the tea planting area has increased 50-80 thousand hectares, and the total tea planting area across the country up to 1.5 million hectares. According to Wang, China’s tea export has also increased this year, and by the end of the year the total export volume will reach 300 thousand tons of 600 million US dollars worth.
