SBS to re-count provincial GDP by same standard

Chinanews, Beijing, January 23 – The State Bureau of Statistics (SBS) is planning to re-count provincial¹ GDP by the same accounting² standard, to correct the strange current situation, in which the sum of the provincial GDPs, counted by provincial governments, is much larger than the total GDP of China counted by the SBS.

The over-count of provincial GDPs is meant to exaggerate local governments' achievement in economic development. Thus SBS is planning to send 30 investigation³ teams to directly collect statistics and calculate provincial GDPs.
