Chinese communications company Huawei has launched its first premium¹ laptop - the MateBook X - in Berlin.

Huawei is well known for its range of smartphones and is currently the third-largest smartphone maker² behind Apple and Samsung.

 

Huawei's President of the Consumer Business Group West Europe, Walter Ji, says the MateBook X will be competitive with other PCs.

 

"In the past few years the smartphone industry has improved enough to take care of the consumers' experience. But the PC industry does not grow so fast as it (has a) lack of innovation. That is the major reason we launched the MateBook X to the industry. We have strongly believed that it's very convenient, efficient for high-premium users."

 

The 13.3-inch device highlights a new type of fan-less cooling system and weighs only slightly over 1 kilogram.

 

The MateBook X is expected to hit markets in July.

 

A larger 15-inch MateBook D and updated version of tablet MateBook E were also unveiled at the same time.
