Chinese tech giant Tencent is implementing1 strict new rules on its widely-popular online game "King of Glory" in response to concerns from parents.
面对家长们的担忧,腾讯将对其广受欢迎的在线游戏《王者荣耀》执行严格的限制。
Under the new restrictions2, players under the age of 12 will be limited to one hour of playing time per day, and are also forbidden from logging on to the game after 9pm.
Kids between the ages of 12 and 18 are limited to two hours a day.
A so-called guardian3 platform is also going to be established, allowing parents to block their children from playing the game through a single 'shut down' click.
Tencent is also promising4 to upgrade its real-name authentication5 system to prohibit unauthorized accounts from being set up.
However, some primary school students interviewed by The Paper say they're still able to find an adults' ID card number online, which allows them to avoid the registration6 restrictions.
"The development of the internet has its disadvantages. As an example, if students can't play 'King of Glory,' they'll likely just turn to other online games. But I do appreciate Tencent's move. It should help make young people realize that online addiction7 is a legitimate8 problem," a junior high school teacher from Jinan, Shandong Province is being quoted by The Paper.
